Construction work in Amaravati is progressing at a brisk pace, Andhra Pradesh Power Minister Gottipati Ravikumar told reporters this week, as the state capital project continues to take shape following its statutory recognition as Andhra Pradesh’s sole and permanent capital.
An emerging education hub
Ravikumar said Amaravati is developing into an education city, with reputed institutions including SRM University, VIT and BITS Pilani already establishing campuses in the capital region — part of a broader push to anchor long-term population and investment in the new city rather than relying solely on government offices.
Backed by earlier review meetings
The update follows a high-level review chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at his camp office in Amaravati, where officials reported that capital city construction works worth Rs 57,821 crore are currently under way across the region, spanning government buildings, housing, roads and civic infrastructure.
Why the pace matters
Amaravati’s construction has faced years of delays and funding uncertainty since the capital plan was first announced in 2014. With Parliament having granted the city permanent capital status earlier this year and central loan support of Rs 15,000 crore approved for capital development, officials are under pressure to show visible, sustained progress on the ground rather than repeated announcements.
